Coffee at Valley Bean
She built her life on order. He’s the kind of man who reads it without being told.
Emma Bennett has run Valley Bean Café for seven years on careful margins, quiet competence, and the comfortable certainty that nobody is going to surprise her — until the sheriff walks in with a booth relocation notice three days before the Summer Festival.
An Excerpt — Coffee at Valley Bean
Chapter One
By six-thirty, Valley Bean was already too full.
Not technically. But Emma had stopped thinking in complete sentences around five forty-five, and found the morning moved better without them.
Outside, the festival crew was already chalking lane markers on the square. Three days until Saturday. The whole town had that pre-festival quality — a collective acceleration, everyone quietly agreeing to move faster and say less about why.
The bell above the door kept ringing. Milk screamed under the steam wand. Someone near the pastry case wanted to know if the blueberry muffins were fresh.
“They came out twenty minutes ago,” Emma said. “So unless time works differently in Rowan Valley, yes.”

“Westfield writes longing better than anyone working today. Cedar Harbor felt like a place I’d lived.”
“Tender, atmospheric, and quietly devastating in the best way. The slow burn is worth every page.”
